Nature vs. Nurture

Yazan
Can homosexuality be learned or is it gradually developed overtime? Scientists and psychologists alike have yet to prove such an argument.  Many argue that one chooses to be attracted to the same sex either because they’ve had no success with their own gender or because they are easily influenced by their surroundings. Male homosexuality was chosen because “they chose that life because maybe they don’t get no p*ssy” (Yazan) or they possibly didn’t have a father growing up and emulated their mothers emotions (Muna Omar).  However Metro State attendee Yazan goes on to say that “Girls are different because when they’re horny, they’ll do anything”.

Charles Hazel
Charles Hazel argued that individuals are not born homosexual because “its all about how you were raised”. Whatever you’re exposed to at a young age affects you. If you let your son play with dolls until he’s seven, chances are something’s not right”.

However Samantha Rios opposed his argument. “When your sexual orientation is like your nervous system, you’re innately attracted to a certain gender. You’re born to be attracted to a certain way”.

Ryan Ferdic, found studying at a table in the farthest part of the library, agreed with the nature vs nature theory. However, he said that if “he was born nature vs nurture, he leans more towards nature” meaning no one really chooses homosexuality. It’s an automatic feeling.

The biggest argument against homosexuality is that it’s not natural. And by not natural, God did not intend for two men to engage in sexual activities when He created Adam and Eve. “God’s word says that Homosexuality is against His Plan.  However in the Bible, God accepts all his children that live and do right by His word. He plays no favorites.

Renzo Figlio

At the office of Gay Lesbian Transgender Bisexual (GLBT) located in the Tivoli Student Union, employee Renzo Figlio when asked if individuals are born homosexual, responded “no with a but and yes with and if. I don think it’s that simple. Not all are born and not all are learned. It’s a combination”. Basically there’s no right answer is his argument. An example to help with his tongue twister would be sports. Some are naturally athletic while others struggle to play along.
Antoinette Martin

But then comes the idea of genetics. Are individuals genetically homosexual? Antoinette Martin, senior at Metro State,  says there are  “so many genetic possibilities to mix and match that it’s a double-sided question”.  Kevin Orellana takes a step back from progress and argues one learns to be gay. “it’s all about your environment. If you’re around f*gs, you’re going to conform”.
