Her name is Janet, Miss Jackson if you’re nasty! Singer/actress/icon Janet Jackson performed a sold out show this Thursday night in Denver as a part of her “Up Close & Personal World Tour.” She also took time out of her day to answer questions about her tour, music and her brother, Michael. Jackson has sold 40 million records worldwide and is part of the most talked about family in pop culture.
Interviewing Jackson is different from any other celebrity. She’s not loud, she’s not talkative; rather she’s incredibly shy. She speaks at a very low volume and holds herself together as if someone is watching her at all times. Miss Jackson wore casual sweats and an oversized t-shirt in her dressing room and didn’t move once during the interview. “I like everything to be calm in my dressing room. Nothing is out of place and everything is very simple. I don’t like it when they go out of control to please me.” Jackson said.
When asked about her tour and how it was different from her past tours Jackson smiled, “If you compare it to the Rhythm Nation Tour (1990) it’s very low key. No major costume changes, no arenas. It’s more about me being closer to the fans, which I owe them for all the love and support.” This is the first time Janet has returned to Denver, since her 2001 “All for You” Tour.

Jackson has been incredibly busy this past year. She released her second greatest hits compilation (which sparked her current tour) and also wrote and released her first book, “True You” in which she tells the story of her ongoing weight issues and the family issues that everyone has always wanted to know. “Everyone wants to know about Michael. I understand that, but people do need to understand that it’s hard for me to talk about.” The subject was dismissed and not mentioned again. In previous interviews, Jackson stated that she had just recently built up the strength to watch his videos and listen to his music. She has yet to see his film, “This Is It.”
Jackson quickly went into talking about the tour. “It’s hard being back out on the road, it’s been a while”. Jackson seems to be in amazing shape, and looks like she never stopped touring since 2008’s “Rock With You Tour.” When asked about her general day on tour, Jackson responded, “I wake up, go to the gym they provide at the venue, do a sound check and then put on the show. It’s not much of a day, but seeing the fans makes it all worth it.” She works out every day, and it shows.
“I couldn’t ever pick a favorite song to perform,” Jackson responded when asked about favorite moments on the show. “Every city is different, and it’s great. There is never a song that people don’t know the words too, and there is never a moment when my fans stop singing. It’s an incredibly rewarding feeling.”
When asked how she felt about the mile high city, Janet laughed and quickly responded, “It’s great! I was so bummed when we didn’t get here on the last tour. It’s beautiful, I’d love to come back on every tour from hear out.”

With seven number one albums and thirty-five number one hits, what’s next for Janet? “I’m going to start working on my next record soon, and I’d love to get back into acting.” Jackson said. She recently just starred in the drama “For Colored Girls” which was met with great applause from critics. “Acting is great, because I like to let all my emotion out on film. I don’t generally do that.” Jackson seems on top of the world, and although she has seen a lot of heartbreak in the past year, you could never tell by her confidence, and beauty as a person.
